What happens when we tighten enforcement of illegal immigration?
What would happen if we tightened our enforcement of illegal immigration? What would happen to people working here? If we took their opportunities away, would they turn to less honorable work?

- Maybe legal residents would take the jobs and wages would rise as a result. Here in my town, restaurants are no longer serving lunch because they can't find staff.
- Most immigrants are here for the advantages. Why would they put up with 'us' otherwise? I don't want to be part of slave labor, induced by employers who hire illegals on the cheap and yet charge the consumer the same as if they were paying a livable wage to their employees. Bring the manufacturing sector back to the US and then make the employers prove their employees can work here legally.
- Illegal immigration should NOT be, period!!!! Yes this country should tighten the enforcement of illegals. They have broken OUR LAWS coming into this country illegally. They have NO right to be here. They have NO right to entitlements. They have NO right to work. They should return to their home countries and try to come into this country by legal means, just like those waiting in line. Enough said.
- The work I do wouldn't be lost to them. I have had my serial number used by someone unknown and guese who had to pay for the added income plus the fines and pinalties for the unreported income. it wasn't them. the fines and pinalties were over $10,000.00 and still counting this was almost 27 years ago and still happining.
- Wages would probably rise to reasonable rates to attract American workers. If by "less honorable work" you mean engaging in illegal activity for profit, that really wouldn't be much different than what's happening now. Maybe they will leave, since there's no work... or maybe they'll commit EVEN MORE crimes, resulting in a higher demand for border security and deportations.
- we could find a job for our people who are here legally
- What would happen? Some states have put the cap at min wages $5.30 and hour? With gas at $3.00+ a gallon one would have to live down the block to be able to pay for a car, house, insurance on both and still live unless you get breakfast, lunch and dinner at the employment place?
- Who cares. They would be deported and back in their own country where they belong.
- The same thing that's happening in Arizona right now. With no opportunities, the illegals will self-deport and go back home.
