What are the pros and cons in going into security/law enforcement?

Please only answer this question if you work in security/ law enforcement, or if you have a family member that does. I would appreciate both sides. Thanks.

1. I work in law enforcement. Some people do it for power, which is not a good thing. I do it for the good money, which is not a good thing and some people actually do it to try to save lives, which they later find out doesn't really happen since we are always called AFTER the crime has been committed. Cops make a lot more than most people think...at least in my city.
2. It's stressful and can be very disheartening, but every now and then, you get to make a difference, which is enough to keep me going. I am proud of my contribution to the world. On the flip side, there are an awful lot of people who despise me simply because of what i do for a living - it's one of the few professions that comes with that sort of problem.
