How does a parking enforcement officer know you're parking over the time limit?
I got a ticket for being parked over the posted time limit. The posted time limit was for 2 hours. I was at the gym for only 1 hour and I got a ticket for exceeding the 2 hour limit. Totally bogus! Anyway, obviously I am appealing this sorry excuse to rip off an innocent tax payer, but i'm curious as to how the parking enforcement officers know which cars are over the limit and which ones aren't? Seems like whatever the procedure is, it doesn't work!

- Tire tread is marked with chalk at specific intervals.
- I have seen them chalk mark the tires ,then they probably write down the license plate.
- They drive by and mark each car's tires with chalk. When they come back later, if a car has a chalk mark, it is over the limit and gets a ticket. Maybe the officer mis-timed his return trip. If you feel you can demonstrate you were within the parking time limit, take it to court. Best wishes and good luck.
- Well if you park by a meter then obviously there's a timer there. Otherwise they just patrol the area and watch to see how long people are parked. Some also chalk the tires.
- When I was in college i did parking enforement as a part time job. What we did was put a chalk mark on the tire and then come back 2 hours later and if the car was still there, then they had exceeded the 2 hour parking limit. Maybe this enforcement person got your car mistaken or something, but I knwo with the method that we used, it was impossible to get it wrong.
- They will lie under oath in court too
- Check and see if your gym has a log showing when you entered and left. It would not be complete proof but better than nothing.
