Where is the best beach to spend the day on the Sacramento River?
I'm planning on spending the day at the Sacramento River in Sacramento, Ca. And I think we're going to Discovery Park, but im not sure if there's a nice beach area there? Any help or ideas would be great! Thanks!

- The Sacramento is a boring , totally tame river and it doesn't have many nice beaches. Ditto for Discovery Park which is really just a launching point for those who want to water ski in the river. My recommendation is that you head up the river a ways to Folsom Lake and sunbathe at Five Percent beach. Even better, head up to Colfax and give the North Fork of the American a try. The North Fork is INCREDIBLE this time of the year. Just drive to Colfax and ask at a gas station how to get to the river. You'll have a great time.
- I agree with cjr....drive up to the North Fork of the American River. Discovery Park is full of drunken hicks. http://www.theamericanriver.com/paddling/recreational.php A previous poster in this section gave this link for access to the Sacramento. Looks to be very useful. http://www.sacramentoriver.org/access_site.php?index=1
