Amazon has announced the extension of its free home-delivery food program through 2028, a move that reflects the company’s commitment to making nutritious meals more accessible while reducing household costs. Bettina Stix, Global Director of Community Impact at Amazon, said this in an announcement made on Amazon News.

“The impact of home delivery goes beyond convenience—research shows that it can save families on average $100 monthly in time and travel costs,” said Stix. “By extending home delivery through 2028, we’re committing to continue using our delivery network to help ensure families have reliable access to nutritious meals.”

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, food insecurity affects approximately 47 million Americans annually. This issue arises when individuals have limited or uncertain access to sufficient food for an active and healthy life. Factors contributing to food insecurity include high food costs, transportation barriers, and limited availability of nutritious options in rural or underserved areas.

Amazon has delivered over 60 million free meals from food banks across the United States and the United Kingdom, targeting families facing food insecurity and transportation challenges. The company has pledged to continue providing these free delivery services until 2028. This long-term commitment is expected to enable more than 40 partner food banks to enhance their operations and invest confidently in home delivery services.

FIND Food Bank in Indio, California, is one such partner collaborating with Amazon to deliver meals directly to households in the Coachella Valley. Together, they aim to distribute 100,000 meals to residents who face transportation or mobility barriers. This partnership has increased local capacity for reaching homebound families and improved access to reliable and nutritious food throughout the region.

Stix has been with Amazon for over 26 years and currently leads the company’s global community impact initiatives. She played a key role in establishing Amazon’s disaster relief, food security, and education programs as part of its broader social responsibility strategy. Additionally, she serves on the boards of FareStart and Global Washington, two nonprofit organizations focused on community development and equity.
