The California Chamber of Commerce has responded to the Governor’s decision to veto Senate Bill 7, which aimed to regulate the use of automated decision systems in employment. In a statement released on October 13, 2025, the Chamber expressed appreciation for the Governor’s action.

“We are grateful the Governor heard the concerns of a broad, diverse coalition that opposed SB 7 for its sweeping approach to regulating the use of automated decision systems in employment,” the Chamber stated.

The Chamber and other opponents argued that SB 7 would have imposed broad regulations on businesses using automated systems for employment decisions. They maintained that such regulations could hinder innovation and complicate hiring processes.

The veto follows ongoing debates in California over how best to balance technological advancements in employment practices with regulatory oversight. The Chamber’s statement reflects continued advocacy for what it describes as practical and balanced approaches to technology regulation.
