The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a prerelease webinar on January 22 at 1 p.m. ET to discuss the upcoming release of the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates. The session aims to guide users on how to access ACS data and offer advice for comparing statistics across different geographies and over time.
The ACS is a key source of detailed information about people and housing in the United States, covering topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting, employment, mortgage status, rent, income, poverty, and health insurance coverage. For most of its more than 40 subjects, it provides the only local-level estimates available.
Embargo subscribers will be able to access these new statistics starting January 27 at 10 a.m. ET. The embargo period lasts until January 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this period, wire and distribution services are not allowed to share news stories or data files before the official public release date and time. Full public access to all datasets will begin on January 29 by 10 a.m. ET.
Individuals interested in embargo access can register at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
Presenters for the webinar include Gretchen Gooding, chief of the American Community Survey Office Outreach and Education Branch; Vicki Mack, statistician with the American Community Survey Office; and Jewel Jordan, public affairs specialist from the Public Information Office.
The event will combine an audio conference with an online presentation. Attendees do not need to call in separately for audio. Media members and data users can ask questions through a Q&A feature during the webinar or by audio after the presentation.
Those wishing to attend can register at www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2026/2020-2024-acs-5-year-prerelease.html.
