The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These products allow users to create custom maps using a range of data sources.
Among the updates are new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These contain both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes indicating which blocks have been split since 2020. This enables users to link these geospatial data sets with the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
The TIGER/Line files include information on legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as features like roads and hydrography. The boundary data can be linked to upcoming demographic data from the 2025 census vintage on data.census.gov, making it possible for users to visualize census tabular data geographically.
While TIGER/Line files do not provide demographic data themselves, they include geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be used to connect with demographic datasets produced by the Census Bureau. Users seeking guidance on selecting appropriate products can refer to the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
There is no separate news release associated with this product; this announcement serves as an informational tip sheet.
