The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a prerelease webinar to discuss the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are scheduled for public release on September 11, 2025. The session aims to guide users on accessing ACS data and resources, as well as provide advice on comparing statistics across different geographic areas and time periods.

The ACS is recognized as a key source of detailed statistics about people and housing in the United States. It covers topics such as language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. For many of these subjects—over 40 in total—the ACS offers the only available local-level estimates.

One-year estimates from the survey will be accessible to embargo subscribers starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. These figures will cover all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, every congressional district and metropolitan statistical area, along with other regions with populations of at least 65,000.

Embargoed access for subscribers will last from Tuesday, September 9 at 10 a.m. ET until Thursday, September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this period, wire services and distribution platforms are not permitted to release news stories or data files based on the embargoed information before its official public release. Further details can be found in the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will become publicly available by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.

Those interested in embargo access can register through the Census Bureau’s website at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.

The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET. Caleb Hopler, supervisory survey statistician from the American Community Survey Office, and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office will lead the event.

According to the announcement: “The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Attendees do not need to call into the webinar to hear the audio. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions during the webinar utilizing the Q&A feature and after the presentation through audio.”

Registration for the webinar is available at https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.
