The City of Sacramento announced on April 10 that its Incident Management Team received 426 calls for service last week, engaging people experiencing homelessness and offering services and shelter options while ensuring compliance with city laws and ordinances.
This update matters as it highlights the city’s ongoing efforts to address homelessness by connecting unsheltered residents to needed resources and maintaining public spaces for community use.
According to the city, from March 30 to April 5, the Incident Management Team responded to 585 unique locations. The Department of Community Response continues to focus on direct engagement through trained staff who connect individuals with services and shelter. Neighborhood Resource Coordinators play a key role by responding to calls, de-escalating situations, and helping people move toward stability. Their work is shaped by three core approaches that guide how services are delivered in the field.
The city reported that so far this year, more than 396 individuals have been placed into rapid placement shelters, including 25 placements in the past week. Shelter acceptance rates have increased to nearly 70 percent, indicating a change in how individuals respond to outreach efforts. As more people accept shelter placements, availability of beds remains an important factor in expanding these efforts.
Sacramento officials say they will continue aligning outreach strategies with available services and shelter capacity as part of their commitment to supporting those experiencing homelessness.
