DC Comics has announced a partnership with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC), the charity supported by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union). The collaboration will last for one year and aims to raise awareness about the impact that trained service dogs can have on people’s lives.

The initiative follows a previous joint effort at San Diego Comic-Con and now features a DC-sponsored litter of guide and service dogs. These dogs are being trained to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired, veterans dealing with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries, children with autism, and public institutions through facility dog programs.

For this project, GDA | TLC made an exception to its usual naming tradition by allowing the new litter to be named after well-known DC characters. The puppies include Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo. Each name is inspired by qualities associated with these characters: loyalty, kindness, determination, courage, and boldness.

After completing their initial training phase known as puppy pre-kindergarten, the dogs will continue their development with volunteer puppy raisers. This stage is essential for preparing them to eventually provide support and companionship to those in need.

Throughout the yearlong campaign, fans of both DC Comics and GDA | TLC will be able to follow updates on the puppies’ progress through events and social media activities. There will also be opportunities for fans to meet the puppies at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
