Elizabeth Auer has been with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for three years, working at its Sacramento headquarters. She manages a team of analysts in the Consumer Affairs Branch, focusing on reviewing trends in consumer complaints and improving the efficiency of the complaint process.
In describing her role, Auer said, “What we do directly makes a difference in consumers’ lives. Consumer Affairs is on the front lines, working directly with the community. How we handle calls and what information we communicate makes the difference when assisting with high-ticketed issues. When we help even just one person resolve a problem, that’s a win for us.”
Auer shared career advice she values: “Don’t chase job titles – build skills. Titles can change, companies can restructure, and industries evolve. But the skills you intentionally build stay with you everywhere you go, and those are what make a difference.”
Outside of work, Auer enjoys outdoor activities such as golfing and participates in tournaments. If weather prevents outdoor activities, she spends time on crochet or cross stitch projects. She is also professionally trained in classical dance and teaches teenagers competitive dance at a local studio as well as coaches a high school dance team.
Auer recommends the book “Letting Go” by David R. Hawkins to others, saying it provides an effective way to overcome obstacles to personal growth and encourages readers to see life from new perspectives.
Auer serves as Staff Services Manager I at CPUC.
