Front Street Animal Shelter announced on April 3 that it is waiving all dog adoption fees through Sunday, April 12. The move comes as the shelter reaches critical capacity and seeks to make space for incoming stray animals.

As Sacramento’s municipal animal shelter, Front Street takes in multiple stray and lost dogs every day. By encouraging adoptions during this period, the shelter aims to provide more dogs with homes while also opening up kennels for new arrivals.

The shelter reports a wide range of adoptable dogs available, with various sizes, breeds, and energy levels suitable for different households. “Promotions like these are often what inspire someone to take that first step through our doors,” said Interim Animal Care Services Manager Ryan Hinderman. “We need compassionate individuals to step up and give these animals a second chance, and in return, experience the joy and love they can bring into adopters’ lives.”

For those interested in adopting from Front Street for the first time, the process is described as simple: visitors may browse available dogs online or walk through kennels at the facility. After selecting a dog, adopters can join a meet-and-greet waitlist at the shelter and spend time with their chosen animal alongside an adoption counselor.

All adopted dogs will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home. The fee waiver promotion also extends to dogs currently in foster care. Walk-in adoptions are available daily from noon to 5 p.m., at 2127 Front St.
