The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is urging the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), which seeks to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The call follows President Donald Trump’s executive order on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions.
IAM International President Brian Bryant addressed members of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in letters asking them to support the legislation. “IAM International President Brian Bryant sent this letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives and this letter to members of the Senate, urging their support for the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), a bipartisan piece of legislation aimed at restoring collective bargaining rights of federal workers.”
The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has received bipartisan backing.
“IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce,” said IAM in its statement.
The union emphasized that federal employees play an important role in serving Americans and should have access to collective bargaining, which it says leads to workplace protections and improved public service. “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits.”
IAM represents thousands of federal employees through its affiliate, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which covers about 110,000 federal workers across the country.
