The Virginia IAM Council recently held a meeting that brought together union members and leaders to discuss labor issues and political engagement. Charles Mann, president of the council, spoke about the need for member security, fair compensation, and workplace safety. He also encouraged members to participate in the upcoming Virginia elections, which will include all major statewide offices and delegate seats.
Newly organized members of the IAM Union shared their experiences of forming a union at the botanical gardens where they work. They described the organizing process and emphasized the support they received from union partners.
The meeting also focused on the strategic resources provided by both international and state-level unions, such as the AFL-CIO. Speakers underlined the importance of political involvement and voting for candidates who support labor rights, stating that this is essential for advancing the interests of workers.
The event reinforced the message that political action and collaboration are necessary for securing gains in worker rights, regardless of political party.
