IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to meet with students participating in organizing and leadership programs. The visit included Organizing I classes taught in both Spanish and English, as well as the Young Workers Leadership Program.
Students from across North America attended the sessions at W3 to develop their skills and deepen their involvement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). During her visit, Cervantes emphasized the significance of offering organizing education in Spanish to ensure all members have access to resources needed for leadership roles. She stated that her presence highlighted “the IAM’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, education, and empowering members at every level of the union.”
Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during his visit. He acknowledged their dedication, especially given the timing close to the holidays.
Participants in the Young Workers program said that having union leaders present reinforced their importance within the labor movement and confirmed they have a place in decision-making processes.
