The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 held the 25th Annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, also known as the John Massetti Memorial, in Minnesota. The event brought together fifty-six golfers who helped raise more than $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Raffle prizes at the tournament totaled over $5,000, contributed by supporters and sponsors.

The charity golf tournament began a quarter-century ago when John Massetti, a member of Local 1833, organized the first event. At that time, most GDA fundraisers were motorcycle runs. Massetti saw an opportunity to engage members through golf while supporting a cause he valued. Although Massetti passed away two decades ago, his vision has continued through the efforts of IAM District 77 and Local 1833 members.

Participants included current members, retirees, sponsors, and friends who gathered to continue raising funds for GDA’s mission of providing guide dogs and service dogs to those in need.

“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”

“This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative Andrew Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”

Over its 25-year history, the John Massetti Memorial Golf Tournament has become an annual tradition for IAM members in Minnesota as they continue their support for individuals who benefit from guide dogs.
