Nyjel Alexander, Supervisor I in the Consumer Affairs Branch of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), described his responsibilities and experiences in a statement released on Apr. 16.

Alexander said he manages a team of analysts within the Written Operations Unit, assisting consumers who have concerns related to their Investor-Owned Utilities. He also oversees a group responsible for handling key inboxes that receive inquiries from utilities, consumers, CPUC divisions, and legislative bodies. According to Alexander, his team works collaboratively to ensure timely and accurate responses to a wide range of issues and requests.

Reflecting on his time at CPUC, Alexander said: “For me, the most rewarding aspect of working at the CPUC is the opportunity to directly assist consumers by answering their questions and addressing concerns they may have about their utility services. It’s fulfilling to know that my work contributes to helping people navigate important issues that impact their daily lives.” He also shared career advice he found valuable: “The best career advice I’ve ever received is that while it’s easy to remain in your comfort zone, growth often comes from stepping outside of it. Taking the initiative to learn new skills within your current role can open doors to future opportunities and advancement.”

Alexander has worked at CPUC for seven years and is based in Los Angeles headquarters. He originally joined after recognizing job opportunities across different divisions at CPUC. “What particularly drew me in is the potential for growth and advancement across different divisions, which reflects a strong commitment to internal development and career progression,” he said.

Outside of work, Alexander enjoys spending time with his family exploring new places together as well as attending car shows and automotive events with them. He finds these hobbies meaningful both for staying connected with evolving vehicle technology and creating lasting memories with loved ones.
