Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has announced the extension of its Match My Payment Program, which aims to help customers experiencing financial difficulties pay their energy bills. The program, originally set to end on December 31, 2025, will now continue into 2026 while funds remain available.

The Match My Payment Program provides a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 for eligible low- to moderate-income customers who need assistance with past-due energy bills. This initiative is designed to prevent service disconnections for those struggling financially.

Since its launch in June with a $50 million commitment from PG&E, the program has distributed nearly $22 million in aid to more than 60,000 customers this year. The funding also supports the Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) program, which offers income-eligible customers a bill credit of up to $300 if they have received a disconnection notice.

Vincent Davis, PG&E Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, stated: “We know how challenging it can be for families to keep up with bills in so many aspects of daily life, and we’re focused on delivering meaningful support. This extension is about giving more customers the help they need so they can keep their home comfortable and safe.”

The counties of Fresno, Kern, and San Joaquin have seen the highest number of approved applications and funding, receiving over $9.4 million collectively.

Customers may receive multiple matches throughout the year by making payments of at least $50 toward a past-due balance of $100 or more. Eligibility is determined by federal income guidelines; for example, a family of four earning less than $128,600 annually may qualify—double the income limit required under the REACH program.

Those who have already received a $300 REACH grant are pre-qualified for up to an additional $1,000 through Match My Payment. This allows some customers to receive combined support totaling up to $1,300 as long as funds last. Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and applications are processed by the nonprofit Dollar Energy Fund.

PG&E also offers other assistance programs for income-eligible customers such as Medical Baseline—which provides reduced rates for those who rely on electricity due to medical needs—and encourages individuals seeking support to use its Savings Finder tool or visit pge.com/billhelp for more information.

PG&E serves over sixteen million people across Northern and Central California. More details about PG&E’s services can be found at https://www.pge.com/ and https://www.pge.com/news.
