The Sacramento City Council approved a series of contracts this week to support ongoing efforts addressing homelessness, according to an April 30 announcement. The decision aims to expand outreach and service capacity while maintaining site management across the city.
The issue of homelessness remains a priority for Sacramento officials as they work to help vulnerable residents access shelter and support. The council’s action is part of a broader strategy that includes coordinated field operations, partnerships with service providers, and continued investment in shelters and supportive services.
Mayor Kevin McCarty said, “We have made major progress in addressing homelessness, but we still have a long way to go. On Tuesday, City Council voted to continue the good work already underway. Roseville Road, the Grove – these programs get our most vulnerable residents off the street and into safety, shelter, and dignity. We must remain committed to what’s working.”
During the week of April 20-26, the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT) received 543 calls for service related to homelessness issues. The team responded by engaging people experiencing homelessness at 512 unique locations throughout Sacramento. IMT activities included offering services and shelter options as well as ensuring compliance with city laws and ordinances.
The newly approved contracts are intended to build on these efforts by increasing outreach capabilities and continuing site management at key locations such as Roseville Road and the Grove. According to city officials, this approach is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also help individuals transition from streets into safer environments.
Broader implications for Sacramento include continued investment in resources aimed at reducing homelessness through both direct assistance programs and strategic partnerships with local organizations.
