The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) has opened its application period for K-8 open enrollment for the 2026–2027 academic year. Families interested in having their children attend a school other than their assigned neighborhood school can apply until February 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Admission is subject to space availability.

The district encourages families to explore available options through its Open Enrollment website, where they can find a list of participating schools by grade level and answers to frequently asked questions about the process. Many schools are offering visitation events so families can tour campuses and meet staff. The SchoolFinder tool allows parents to search for schools based on interests, before- and after-school care, and school hours.

To assist with applications, the SCUSD Enrollment Center is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., next to the Serna Center District Office. Staff are available to support families throughout the process without an appointment. The center offers computer kiosks and scanners for convenience, and translators are on hand for non-English-speaking families.

In addition, SCUSD will host enrollment events throughout February across the district to help with general registration as well as applications for Open Enrollment, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten. These events offer hands-on technology support and step-by-step guidance; translators will be present to assist in various languages.

The application window runs from February 2 at 8:00 a.m. until February 27 at 5:00 p.m., with no priority given to early submissions. The district advises families to carefully review options before submitting applications.

Before applying for open enrollment, SCUSD recommends that incoming kindergarteners register at their neighborhood school in case they are not selected through the lottery system.
