The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) will open its application period for K-8 Open Enrollment on February 2, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. The window will remain open until February 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. This process allows families to apply for their children to attend schools outside of their assigned neighborhood school for the 2026–2027 academic year, depending on space availability.

Families are encouraged to visit the district’s Open Enrollment website to explore available school options and review a list of participating schools by grade level. The website also provides answers to frequently asked questions about the enrollment process. In addition, many schools will host visitation events so that families can tour campuses and meet staff members. The SchoolFinder tool is available for those seeking schools based on specific interests, care programs, or schedules.

To assist with applications, the SCUSD Enrollment Center—located next to the Serna Center District Office—will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff at the center are prepared to help families throughout each step of enrollment without requiring an appointment. Computer kiosks and scanners are available onsite for convenience. Translators will also be present to support non-English-speaking families.

In February, SCUSD will hold enrollment events across the district aimed at helping families apply for Open Enrollment as well as Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten. These events offer hands-on technology support and step-by-step guidance; translators will be present to assist in various languages.

The district notes that “Applications are accepted throughout the window; there is no priority for early submissions. Take your time to review and select the best fit for your child before the deadline.”

Before applying for Open Enrollment, parents of incoming kindergarteners are advised to register their child at their neighborhood school in case they are not selected through the lottery system.

For more information about school choices and registration nights, families can visit SCUSD’s official website or contact the Enrollment Center directly.
