Parents and guardians in the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) can begin enrolling their children for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten for the 2026-27 school year starting January 13, 2026. All enrollment applications are available exclusively online.

The district’s Enrollment Center provides support for families who may need assistance with the application process. Computer kiosks, scanners, and staff are available to help, along with MOC translators for families who speak languages other than English.

Families can use SCUSD’s SchoolFinder tool to identify their neighborhood school based on boundaries and review various school options. Many elementary and K-8 schools are offering tours and information sessions for those interested in learning more about available programs.

Children must turn four years old on or before September 1, 2026, to be eligible for TK. For the upcoming school year, TK will be offered at 49 elementary and K–8 schools within the district. Families living within district boundaries can apply through a lottery system between January 13, 2026 at 8:00 AM and February 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Lottery results will be announced on March 16, 2026.

Families who do not participate in the lottery can apply through general TK registration beginning May 18, 2026. Admission is subject to space availability across the district. Additional details about Transitional Kindergarten locations and application procedures can be found on the SCUSD website at https://www.scusd.edu/enroll/tk-kindergarten.

For Kindergarten eligibility in Fall 2026, children must turn five years old on or before September 1, 2026. Kindergarten is provided at all elementary and K-8 schools in the district. Registration opens January 13, 2026 at 8:00 AM, with placement determined by a student’s primary address. More information is available at https://www.scusd.edu/enroll/tk-kindergarten.

Open Enrollment applications for kindergarten at schools of choice will be accepted from February 2, 2026 at 8:00 AM until February 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM. The district recommends registering students first at their neighborhood school as a backup if they are not selected through Open Enrollment. Details about Open Enrollment will be posted in January at https://www.scusd.edu/enroll/school-choice.

For questions regarding TK or Kindergarten enrollment processes, families are encouraged to contact the Enrollment Center.
