Sacramento City Unified selects Dr. Jaime Hernandez as independent monitor for BPSB action plan

Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and the Black Parallel School Board (BPSB) have announced the joint selection of Dr. Jaime Hernandez as the new Independent Monitor for their ongoing Action Plan. This appointment follows both organizations’ roles as parties to the 2023 Settlement Agreement and 2024 Action Plan.

The decision to appoint Dr. Hernandez was made collaboratively, with both parties expressing confidence in his ability to help the district continue its progress under the plan. According to a statement, “This selection reflects the shared belief that Dr. Hernandez will best position the District to sustain momentum, deepen implementation, and accelerate progress under the Action Plan.” His official start date is set for November 21, 2025, pending board approval of his contract on November 20.

Dr. Hernandez is recognized for his background in educational equity, special education, systems improvement, and engagement with educational partners. The joint statement noted: “The parties are confident his expertise will strengthen oversight, collaboration, and transparency moving forward.”
