Sacramento City Unified students earn high marks at American River cross country meet

More than 100 student athletes from over 15 schools in the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) participated in the American River Open Cross Country Meet, which was hosted by the Sacramento Running Association.

In the girls’ 6th grade and under division, Bailie Hurd from Caleb Greenwood Elementary School finished first. Anika Gotha from Leonardo Da Vinci TK-8 and Abigail Manley from AM Winn Public Waldorf also placed in the top ten. In the boys’ 6th grade and under race, William Green of Caleb Greenwood Elementary took fifth place.

Six SCUSD schools were among the top 25 in the girls’ 7th-8th grade division. Miwok Middle School won first place, with three runners finishing in the top ten, including Chloe Font who took first place. Cal Middle School finished third, while AM Winn, Alice Birney, Genevieve Didion, and Sam Brannan also ranked among the top teams.

Miwok Middle School also secured a win in the boys’ team event for this age group, with five athletes placing in the top ten and Wyatt Benton earning a spot among the top three finishers. Cal Middle School finished fourth as a team. Other SCUSD schools placing included Leonardo Da Vinci, Genevieve Didion, Sam Brannan, Albert Einstein, and AM Winn.
