The City of Sacramento reported on Apr. 17 that its Incident Management Team received 530 calls for service last week, engaging with people experiencing homelessness and ensuring compliance with city laws and ordinances.
The update covers activities from April 6 to April 12, during which the team responded to 592 unique locations across Sacramento. As part of preparations for Earth Day events, the Department of Community Response (DCR) coordinated support for organized volunteer activities at multiple sites throughout the city.
On April 11, volunteers participated in neighborhood cleanups and landscaping projects in parks and along waterways. Residents, families, and community groups worked together to maintain public spaces. Leading up to these events, DCR staff provided briefings to event leaders about best practices when working near encampments. This included advice on how to safely interact with individuals who may be experiencing behavioral health challenges.
During the volunteer activities, DCR outreach teams visited several locations to offer real-time support and coordination as needed. Staff noted that compared to previous years there were fewer encampments and fewer people experiencing unsheltered homelessness at event sites.
City officials say this approach demonstrates ongoing collaboration between various municipal teams in supporting community events while maintaining a consistent focus on service-oriented outreach in public areas.
