Sacramento State University has reported record enrollment numbers for the fall semester, with 31,307 students counted in its latest census. This figure marks the highest post-pandemic fall enrollment at the university.
Earlier in March, Sacramento State also recorded its largest-ever spring enrollment, reaching 30,164 students. This surpassed goals set by the California State University (CSU) system.
Over the past decade, Sacramento State’s enrollment has increased by 6.7%. While many colleges and universities across the United States have faced uncertainty since in-person learning was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Sacramento State’s student numbers have remained stable. The university attributes this to outreach efforts aimed at retaining students at risk of dropping out and targeted recruitment campaigns focused on high school and community college students.
The university has introduced several new academic programs as part of its strategy to attract and retain students. These include a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture Studies, a business degree concentration focused on practical applications of artificial intelligence, and one of the country’s largest criminal justice programs. Sacramento State has also developed initiatives to welcome students from diverse backgrounds through programs such as its Black Honors College, Wileety Native American College, and Combat U sports club.
“Our enrollment success this fall is the result of the hard work of a lot of people to make Sacramento State more accessible and welcoming to students from across California and beyond,” said Admissions Director Brian Henley.
“By expanding outreach, strengthening partnerships with high schools and community colleges, and enhancing our support for new and returning students, we’re working to ensure that more students see Sacramento State as their first choice.”
President Luke Wood addressed the campus community about these developments: “Our enrollment numbers are up, which is fantastic news,” said Wood in his Fall Address to the campus community.“These numbers mean we are offering an outstanding, world-class education to even more students.”
