SMUD will hold two community events, called “Meet SMUD,” on September 23 and 25 at the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center and the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership. These events aim to inform residents about SMUD’s 2030 Clean Energy Vision, available residential assistance programs, and energy-saving options such as the Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR), Medical Equipment Discount, and Energy Saver Bundles.
Attendees can speak directly with energy specialists for personalized advice on lowering utility bills and improving energy efficiency in their homes. The events will also feature resource tables offering information about careers in clean energy, opportunities for small businesses through SMUD’s Supplier Education and Economic Development (SEED) program, and ways to join the Clean PowerCity movement. The first 100 participants at each event will receive SMUD-branded bags containing tools for saving energy and educational materials.
“SMUD is committed to meeting people where they are, providing access to a wide range of resources and support from across our community while maintaining our low rates,” said SMUD Chief Executive Officer & General Manager Paul Lau. “As we charge forward toward a zero-carbon future, we want everyone in our community to feel empowered to participate in this clean energy transition and benefit from the opportunities it brings.”

SMUD is recognized as one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit electric service providers serving Sacramento County for over 75 years. In 2023, approximately 78 percent of its power supply was carbon free. The organization aims to achieve zero carbon electricity production by 2030. According to SMUD, its customer rates remain among California’s lowest—over 50 percent lower than those charged by neighboring investor-owned utilities.
