SMUD, in partnership with California State Parks, will host the 12th annual Electricity Fair at the Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park on Saturday, October 18. The event aims to educate the community about renewable energy and SMUD’s plans for a clean energy future.
The fair will include interactive science and solar art projects, museum exhibits, tours of the historic powerhouse, an electric vehicle display, and prizes. Attendees can also enjoy food from local trucks and music from a live DJ. Admission is free, and Regional Transit will provide complimentary transportation for the event.
SMUD, which serves Sacramento County, is the sixth-largest community-owned electric utility in the United States. The organization has supplied electricity for over 75 years and is known for its work in energy efficiency, renewable power, and sustainable solutions. In 2023, SMUD reported that 78 percent of its power supply was carbon free, and it has set a goal to achieve zero carbon electricity production by 2030. SMUD’s rates are typically more than 50 percent lower than those of neighboring investor-owned utilities. More information about SMUD’s Zero Carbon Plan and customer programs can be found at smud.org.
