Specs Inc., a subsidiary of Snap, announced on Apr. 11 a multi-year strategic agreement with Qualcomm Technologies to use Snapdragon system-on-a-chip (SoC) technology in future generations of its Specs eyewear.

The partnership is significant as it marks the first flagship engagement for Specs Inc., which plans to launch its advanced eyewear product, Specs, later this year. The collaboration aims to integrate digital experiences into physical environments using standalone, see-through glasses that allow users to interact with digital content in real time.

According to the companies, the Specs device will be powered by Snapdragon XR platforms that combine edge artificial intelligence and high-performance, low-power computing. This setup is intended to enable intelligent and context-aware experiences directly on the device for faster and more private interactions.

Snap Inc. and Qualcomm Technologies have worked together for over five years on immersive technology projects, including previous generations of Snap’s Spectacles powered by Snapdragon platforms. The new agreement involves long-term roadmap alignment and technical collaboration between both companies. They plan to bring features such as on-device AI, advanced graphics, and multiuser digital experiences to the Specs platform.

The initiative also aims to support developers and partners working with Specs by providing a scalable foundation for creating sophisticated digital experiences over time. Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., said: “We believe the future of computing will be more human and grounded in the real world. Our work with Qualcomm provides a strong foundation for the future of Specs, bringing developers and consumers advanced technology and performance that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Looking ahead, both companies intend their collaboration will help shape how people interact with digital content in everyday life.
