Snap Inc. has announced the upcoming release of Snap OS 2.0, the latest version of its operating system designed for Spectacles. The update introduces a redesigned interface and new features that aim to enhance how users interact with augmented reality (AR) through the wearable device.

According to Snap Inc., Snap OS powers real-time AI experiences on Spectacles, enabling users to engage with digital content using hand and voice controls. With the anticipated public launch of Specs in 2026, Snap OS 2.0 will bring additional utility by supporting Lenses for content enjoyment, browsing, and communication directly from the glasses.

A major part of this update is an overhauled Browser. “We’ve overhauled the Spectacles Browser to make it faster, more powerful, and easier to use,” the company stated. The new browser features a minimalist design optimized for speed and power efficiency. Users can access favorite sites quickly through widgets and bookmarks on a revamped home screen. The toolbar now allows navigation via typing or speaking URLs, managing history, refreshing pages, and resizing windows similar to a laptop experience.

Browser now also includes WebXR support for immersive AR experiences accessible from any compatible website.

Another feature is the dedicated Spotlight Lens. “With the new dedicated Spotlight Lens, we’ve created a phone-free, larger-than-life experience that spatially overlays your favorite content onto the real world,” Snap Inc. explained. This function enables vertical video viewing within users’ field of view without needing a smartphone.

The Gallery Lens aims to simplify capturing and sharing memories from Spectacles by providing an interactive layout for organizing videos before sharing them via Snapchat Stories or with friends.

To improve usability during travel, Travel Mode stabilizes AR content when users are in motion—on planes, trains, or as passengers in cars—to ensure digital elements remain anchored accurately.

The company reports there are hundreds of developers across 30 countries building Lenses for Spectacles. Notable examples include SightCraft by Enklu, NavigatAR by Utopia Labs, Pool Assist by Studio ANRK, as well as Snap’s own creations like Finger Paint, Chess, and Imagine Together.
