Since the launch of Memories in 2016, Snapchat users have saved over one trillion Memories. According to Snap Inc., these Memories differ from typical camera roll photos because users specifically choose which moments to save.
Snap Inc. announced that it is introducing new Memories Storage Plans to support users who have accumulated more than 5GB of saved content. “When we first launched Memories, we never expected it to grow to what it has become today. We want to make sure that our community can continue to store all of their Memories over the long term, so we are introducing new Memories Storage Plans to support Snapchatters with more than 5GB of Memories.”
The company stated that most Snapchatters use less than 5GB of storage and will not be affected by this change. For those exceeding the limit, Snap Inc. is rolling out paid options for additional storage: an introductory plan offering 100GB, a 250GB option available with Snapchat+, and a top-tier 5TB option through Snapchat Platinum.
“For the vast majority of Snapchatters, who have less than 5GB of Memories, nothing will change. For Snapchatters with more than 5GB of Memories, meaning thousands of Snaps, we are rolling out new options to upgrade and increase storage. The introductory Memories Storage Plans offer 100GB, 250GB with Snapchat+, or 5TB with Snapchat Platinum.”
Users whose saved content exceeds the free limit will receive up to twelve months of temporary storage for their excess data before needing to upgrade or download their content elsewhere. “We’ll provide 12 months of temporary Memories storage for any Memories that exceed the 5GB storage limit. Snapchatters can upgrade to a Memories Storage Plan at any time, and as always, will be able to download their Memories directly to their devices.”
