Snapchat’s AR Studio Paris has collaborated with historian and adventurer Bettany Hughes OBE and SandStone Global Productions to launch the new television series “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World with Bettany Hughes.” The series will air on Channel 5 in the UK, following Hughes as she explores ancient sites across Greece, Egypt, and Turkey. Using Snapchat’s augmented reality technology, viewers can scan an on-screen QR code with their phones to virtually experience historic locations such as the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
The show premieres on Channel 5 at 6:30pm BST on August 2 and will be available for weekly streaming on My 5. International viewers can access AR experiences related to each wonder through https://www.sandstoneglobal.com/seven-wonders-ar.
“Ever dreamt of exploring the Great Pyramid of Giza or strolling through the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Thanks to Snap’s AR tech, people can bring these extraordinary monuments to life right in the comfort of their homes,” according to a statement from Snapchat’s AR Studio Paris.
A spokesperson added, “By simply scanning an on-screen QR code with their phones, viewers will be able to virtually travel to moments in time to explore, learn, and see these sites. From traveling to Egypt’s Old Kingdom to check out the Giza Pyramids to seeing the beautiful Hanging Gardens of Babylon — people will be able to explore these awe-inspiring sites in Augmented Reality.”
The collaboration aims to make ancient history more accessible using modern technology.
