Snap Inc. announced on Apr. 2 that it is changing the name of its Spotlight feature to Reals.

The change aims to better reflect how users share their experiences on the platform. According to Snap Inc., Snapchatters use Spotlight daily to post unfiltered and spontaneous moments, which prompted the decision for a new name.

The company said, “Every day, Snapchatters come to Spotlight to share what’s actually happening: unfiltered, in-the-moment, and uniquely them. So we’re giving it a name that better reflects the way our community shows up.” The statement continued, “Starting today, Spotlight is now Reals.”

Despite the new name, Snap Inc. confirmed that the core function of the feature remains unchanged. The platform will continue as a space for users’ spontaneous reactions and everyday highlights.

The update represents an effort by Snap Inc. to align its branding with how its community interacts with content.
