EnviroSpark and Sutter Health have announced a partnership to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging access at healthcare facilities across Northern California. The initiative aims to make it easier for patients, visitors, and caregivers to charge their vehicles while at Sutter campuses.
The rollout includes installations already underway in Fremont and Oakland, with plans for additional sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Central California. EnviroSpark’s largest single network installation so far is part of this effort.
“At Sutter Health, we are always seeking new ways to support the well-being of our patients and the communities we serve,” said Bob Mitsch, vice president of Facility and Property Services for Sutter Health. “This agreement with EnviroSpark aligns with our commitment to innovation and sustainability, while making it easier for those who visit our care sites to focus on their health—not their fuel gauge.”
A pilot project at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland saw 32 EV chargers installed in a high-traffic parking garage. Angel Borja, senior director for Acute Facilities Management for Sutter’s Greater San Francisco and East Bay division, said: “EnviroSpark recently completed a successful pilot installation of 32 electric vehicle chargers at the high-traffic parking garage of Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland. We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients, families, employees and physicians.”
The installation was made possible through EnviroSpark’s fully funded deployment model. This approach allowed Sutter Health to add EV infrastructure without upfront or ongoing costs.
Frank Woodling, CEO of EnviroSpark, stated: “We’re proud to support Sutter Health in its mission to provide accessible and compassionate care while also investing in sustainable infrastructure. Together, we’re helping ensure that EV drivers across California have access to reliable charging where and when they need it most.”
The collaboration comes as demand grows for EV infrastructure within healthcare settings. California continues its efforts toward zero-emission transportation goals.
As more installations are planned over the coming months, both organizations say they will continue working together on solutions intended to benefit local communities as well as the environment.
