The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement. The data provide updated information on new business applications and formations in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Business Formation Statistics (BFS) are designed to offer timely and frequent insights into trends in business creation across the country. These statistics are produced by the Census Bureau in collaboration with economists from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

Each month, the full BFS dataset is published with all twelve series—four covering applications and eight covering formations—for national, regional, and state levels. Additionally, four monthly business application series specific to Puerto Rico are included as part of this standard product. The BFS features both seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted data.

There was no separate news release associated with this announcement; it was issued as a tip sheet only.
