The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early look at public school spending per student for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The initial findings also include state-level summary statistics on revenues and expenditures for public school systems during the 2024 fiscal year.

According to the Census Bureau, the fiscal year can differ among school systems, and the survey data have not been adjusted to match a uniform fiscal calendar. The information is considered preliminary and may be updated before the final version is published.

The agency stated that final data covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia are scheduled for release in 2026.
