The University of California Board of Regents has opened applications for the 2027-28 student regent position. The student regent is a full voting member on the board, representing students from all ten campuses in the UC system.

All students enrolled at any UC campus are eligible to apply for this role. The selected candidate will receive a stipend and a waiver covering all systemwide tuition and fees during their two-year term. The application deadline is March 8, 2026.

The position involves serving one year as a non-voting regent-designate, followed by one year as a full voting member of the Board of Regents. Responsibilities include representing nearly 300,000 UC students, participating in policy decisions that affect student life, advocating for issues such as access and affordability, and developing leadership skills.

Students interested in learning more about the role can attend an informational webinar on January 29, where they will have the opportunity to hear from the current student regent and regent-designate about their experiences and ask questions. Registration for the webinar is available online.

Student Regent Sonya Brooks stated: “We hope every student who is interested in this position will join us for the webinar, and then apply for the position. It’s so important that UC’s governing board include a passionate, outspoken student who wants to make a difference.”

For additional information or questions regarding the application process, students can contact studentregentapplication@ucop.edu.
