Residents will have the chance to help shape future safety improvements along Broadway in Oak Park at a community workshop scheduled for April 9. The City of Sacramento announced on Mar. 27 that the event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at American Legion High School, located at 3801 Broadway.

The workshop aims to gather feedback from residents about two projects: the Envision Broadway in Oak Park Complete Street Project and the Broadway Vision Zero project. Both initiatives focus on making the corridor safer for people walking, biking, using transit, and driving.

“These projects are about making Broadway safer and more accessible for everyone who lives, works and travels through Oak Park,” said Stephanie Saiz, assistant engineer with the City’s Department of Public Works. “Community input is critical to ensuring the improvements reflect the needs and priorities of the neighborhood.”

The Envision Broadway project proposes redesigning a section of Broadway between Franklin Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard by reducing travel lanes, adding pedestrian refuge areas, buffered bike lanes, sidewalk upgrades, street parking where possible, streetscape enhancements, and better access to Route 51 bus stops. The Vision Zero project focuses on another segment between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stockton Boulevard with plans to reduce vehicle lanes from four to two while adding a center turn lane and separated bike lanes with striped buffers.

Attendees at the workshop can review proposed changes, hear updates on both projects, and share their opinions directly with city staff as part of shaping final designs.
